Accident caused by motors

What is the procedure if I have been involved in a motor accident caused by another person? "You should always take down the details of the driver of the other vehicle involved. This includes their name, telephone number, registration number and make, model and colour of their car. In the case of a hit-and-run accident, try to get the registration number of the car and make a mental record of the make/model/colour of the car so that the driver can be traced. If you are not able to do so, you should consult a solicitor as soon as possible."
Report the incident to the police within 24 hours. If you are not able to do so, you may need to provide proof of sufficient justification for not doing so. You should get a case number from the police as a reference for your report. What if I am partially responsible for the accident? Be aware that being at fault in a motor accident greatly minimises your chance of successfully claiming damages. Nevertheless, you should go through the same procedure as described above, and consult a lawyer for additional advice.
What compensation am I entitled to? "This depends entirely on the circumstances of the accident - whether you were partially involved in causing the accident or the responsibility lies entirely with the other party; how bad your injuries are; whether they affect your ability to earn a living. Compensation may include remuneration for medical and rehabilitation expense, loss of earnings, pain and suffering, and home modifications."
